Summary

The first panel of the 2nd edition, set against the centenary of Poland's regained independence, asked whether Poland – located in a “crush zone” between Atlantic and Russian influence – can play the role of a regional power. The panel took the form of a series of talks: on military security and the “neo–Cold War” threat (Koziej, Siemoniak), the region's energy sector (Maciążek), economic relations with the EU (Brodzicki) and soft power (Matuszak), followed by a plenary session. In the announcement, the organiser pointed to Poland's geographic potential as a trade hub on the north–south and east–west axes, and to the limitations of the Intermarium and Three Seas concepts.
