Summary

The debate opening the 4th edition brought together three perspectives: analytical (Piotr Arak, Polish Economic Institute, PIE), academic and practical from the rail sector (Prof. Mirosław Antonowicz) and strategic (Maciej H. Grabowski, Centrum Myśli Strategicznych). Arak presented a PIE report on the transformation of the growth engines of the US, the EU and China, showing the EU's declining share of global GDP. Antonowicz pointed to the barriers to freight on the Eurasian corridors: the low commercial speed of freight trains (20–30 km/h), problems with interoperability and train-driver licensing, and the need for a common CIM/SMGS consignment note and for digital rail. The debate was moderated by Mikołaj Wild, President of CPK.
