2018: Member of the Sejm (MP) of the 8th term, vice-chairman of Civic Platform; Minister of National Defence in 2011–2015. 2021: Member of the Sejm (MP) of the 9th term, vice-chairman of Civic Platform (PO).

A politician and economist; in 2007–2011 Secretary of State at the Ministry of the Interior and Administration (MSWiA), in 2011–2015 Minister of National Defence in the governments of Donald Tusk and Ewa Kopacz, and in 2014–2015 Deputy Prime Minister. Since 2015 a Member of the Sejm and one of the leaders of Civic Platform. At GGM in 2018 he asked whether Poland faces the threat of war, and in 2021 he debated the relationship between NATO and European strategic autonomy.
